Raimundo Gaby will be showing his work at Gallery 40, 40 Cannon Street Poughkeepsie, NY from October 22 through the end of December, 2021. His solo exhibition "Colors of Grief" opens on Friday, October 22nd from 5-7 with a live and virtual artist talk at 6PM.
COLORS OF GRIEF STATEMENT Colors of Grief is a culmination of the hardship and joy I experienced in the last eighteen months. For many, this theme may seem sad or gloomy; however, to me, art has always been my escape (and salvation) when dealing with difficult times. I immerse myself into my paintings as I look for a cure or relief. The intensity and urgency of it all is a reflection of my state of mind. I did not worry how my work would be received or judged. I was not focused on a coherent theme, nor was I afraid of overusing colors, textures or sparkles. I worked in my studio through sleepless nights pouring my emotions and thoughts, as if the kaleidoscope I was creating would give me comfort and answers. In the end I was able to transform grief into joy. The show features fluid paintings utilizing multiple techniques and materials. The process is very experimental and it is created when the pigment is poured and it runs free. The results are psychedelic, organic and often times surprising. There are no two alike as the paint independently runs over the canvas creating movement and emotions. Almost all my creations are finished with art resin. Recently, I started experimenting with mixed media, incorporating broken glass, pebbles, and acrylic skin to my creations. This show is dedicated to those we lost and grieved for and for a better future. |
